Premier Janez Janša: Slovenia and Croatia have agreed on a close cooperation in curbing the spread of coronavirus

Datum:

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, yesterday had a meeting at Otočec with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković. The talks of both prime ministers and their delegations focused on a more coordinated fight against COVID-19 and the curbing of the spread of coronavirus. The participants at the meeting included Minister of the Interior, Aleš Hojs, Minister of Economic Development and Technology, Zdravko Počivalšek, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr Tina Bregant, Director of the National Institute of Public Health, Dr Milan Krek, and Director of the University Clinic of Pulmonary and Allergic Diseases Golnik, Aleš Rozman.

In a joint statement to the media after the meeting, Prime Minister Janez Janša expressed his thanks to his Croatian counterpart for a quick response to the invitation sent by Slovenia. “I would like to begin by taking the opportunity to congratulate Prime Minister Plenković on winning the recent elections and on the fact that Croatia has entered the mechanism for adopting the euro and that we will soon be able to pay in euros in Croatia,” said Janez Janša.

He then pointed out that the primary aim of today’s meeting was to exchange information on the epidemiological situation in both countries and discuss the measures that have already been taken both in Slovenia and in Croatia as well as the measures that will be taken to make life as normal as possible even during the tourist season.

“Epidemiologists from both countries have already been exchanging information on a regular basis, but today we agreed on daily contacts, because only coordinated actions can bear fruit in this situation and at this time,” stressed Prime Minister Janez Janša.

I am glad to have received concrete information on the measures adopted by the Republic of Croatia at the European Union’s external borders; our Croatian colleagues also informed us that they were preparing a COVID-19 tracking application themselves; this is one of the key moments which can enable people to perform their working obligations and to go on holidays as normal as possible”, continued Prime Minister Janez Janša and added that one of the good news regarding the exchange of data was that both countries had similar information and similar experience on the highest risk environments for the spread of the virus and “the basic tourist  activity does not belong to them.”

Prime Minister Janez Janša also said that it had been agreed at today’s meeting that the representatives of the Slovenian and Croatian Government would meet again if necessary and added “I am especially pleased with the close cooperation of our epidemiologists, who are the ones proposing the required measures in Slovenia.”

In response to the question about whether the participants of the meeting today discussed the issue of enforcement of the arbitral award, Prime Minister Janša said “we have not raised these issues because there are topics that can wait and topics that cannot wait and today we talked about those that cannot wait.”

In response to the question about the operation of nightclubs and a possible common infection tracking application of both countries Prime Minister Janez Janša said that as regards nightclubs Slovenia “is also on the yellow list and therefore the Slovenian Government and the Ministry of Health have already adopted a series of measures. ” “Croatia has also adopted similar measures and some of them have been announced, but I sincerely hope that all of Europe will soon have the application it needs until a COVID-19 vaccine or medicine is discovered, ” concluded the Slovenian Prime Minister.
