Janez Janša on the coronavirus in Slovenia: the government must immediately secure and limit movement in health care institutions

Datum:

The fewer people you test, the smaller your chances are of finding the infection. This »predicts more serious consequences than in the case of greater promptness, timely and thorough preparations,« Janez Janša wrote on Twitter, suggesting that the government should immediately: 1. secure and limit movement in health care institutions, nursing homes and other most vulnerable points, and 2. centralise the testing, admission and care for the patients in one 100% secure location and establish appropriate logistics.

The common flu and Covid-19 coronavirus may have very similar symptoms, but the latter is much more deadly. If the flu mortality rate is around 0.1 percent, the Covid-19 mortality rate is about 3.4 percent, according to recent information. That’s 34 times more. The worst part is that, according to Business Insider, this mortality rate is not the final rate yet, as it is still developing.

»This virus is not SARS, it is not MERS and it is not influenza,« Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) said, when talking about Covid-19 on Tuesday, March 3rd. »It is a unique virus with unique characteristics.«

Janša proposes measurements to limit the disease
»While many people around the world are resistant to seasonal influenza, Covid-19 is a new virus that no one is immune to,« Ghebreyesus explained. For now, there is no cure or vaccine for the Covid-19. There is only the relieving of the symptoms of the disease. The new Prime Minister of the forming government, Janez Janša, pointed out why the first case in Slovenia was discovered so late. »The fewer people you test, the smaller your chances are of finding the infection,« he characterized the actions of those responsible in Slovenia.
@vladaRS should immediately:
1. secure and limit movement in health care institutions, nursing homes and other most vulnerable points,
2. centralise testing, admission and care for the patients in one 100% secure location and establish appropriate logistics

Janša also pointed out that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia should immediately »secure and limit movement in health care institutions, nursing homes and other most vulnerable points,« and »centralise testing, admission and care for the patients in one 100% secure location and establish appropriate logistics.«

The vast majority of those infected, estimated at around 80 percent, are reported to only show mild signs of illness, while only the patients with the worst symptoms are admitted to hospitals.

34-times more deadly than the flu
The coronavirus that erupted in the Chinese city of Wuhan has claimed 3,383 lives so far. The coronavirus infection, which has recently mutated into at least two different strains, was confirmed in 98,698 people, with 55,444 recovering from the infection. These are the official numbers for now.

According to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), the coronavirus is more deadly to people of all ages, and especially the elderly. Among people aged 10-40 who became infected, four died for every 1000 infected. On the other hand, 8 percent of people aged between 70 and 79 died as a result of the infection, and the death rate among those over 80 years is about 15 percent.
