‘Minister Anja Kopač Mrak has signed a contract with selected contractors for projects concerning multi-generational centres,’ the Ministry boasted yesterday. What they failed to mention was that it is another project with no added value serving only the party of the Social Democrats (SD) and the recruiting of its members.
After the unconstitutional abduction of two boys from Velenje, who were taken away from their grandparents, the ‘vouchers’ and the debt relief have also become another hopeless project of the Minister for Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Anja Kopač Mrak, and taxpayers will again be the ones who will have to pay almost €9 million.
They claim that the objective of the invitation to tender is to create a network of 15 multi-generational centres which will implement preventative five-year programmes aimed at the social inclusion of vulnerable social groups and at preventing a slide into social exclusion.
We have asked the president of the youth section of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) and member of the Slovenian National Assembly Žan Mahnič, who has spent a lot of time looking into the problems of young people, to comment on the multi-generational centres. Mahnič said that ‘the best policy for preventing the social exclusion of vulnerable social groups is a policy for creating new jobs, which seems to be too hard a nut to crack for the government of Miro Cerar since each year 15 to 20 thousand people still migrate abroad in search of a better life. These 15 centres will primarily serve as a testing ground for recruiting the personnel of the SD party, as is already evident in the case of social work centres. Unfortunately, we do not know anything concrete about the project. For €8.7 million we would like to see clear goals and a strategy on how these goals are to be achieved.’
