On Thursday, April 30th, the general restriction of movement to municipalities had been lifted, and from Monday onwards, there will be a gradual start of many activities that will be carried out in accordance with the instructions of the healthcare profession, Prime Minister Janez Janša said. He stated that the reason for this is that the number of people actively infected with the coronavirus and the number of coronavirus patients in Slovenia has decreased to a level that allows the adoption of a plan to phase out the restrictions for the foreseeable future.
In his public statement, Prime Minister Janez Janša announced that after many weeks of restrictions on movement and a number of activities of public life, we have reached an important turning point. Data from the competent institutions show that the number of people actively infected with the coronavirus and the coronavirus patients in Slovenia has decreased to a level that allows the adoption of a plan to phase out the restrictions for the foreseeable future.
Based on the proposals of health experts from the Ministry of Health, the Government has adopted a plan today to restore free movement and to launch a number of activities in the coming days, weeks, and months. Some dates in the plan are fixed, while others may be only indicative.
The restrictive measures are being lifted, a gradual starting up of activities will follow As the Prime Minister pointed out, the general restriction of movement to municipalities was to be lifted on April 30th, and from Monday onwards, there will be a gradual start of many activities that will be carried out in accordance with the instructions of the healthcare profession. Gatherings and other mass events and major sports competitions in Slovenia or elsewhere in Europe are unlikely to be held until the discovery and the general use of a vaccine or medicine to treat COVID-19.
The plan of gradual easing of restrictions will be presented in more detail tomorrow. “In view of this important interim victory in the fight against the epidemic, I would like to thank all of you, dear compatriots, for having prevented the spread of the virus by following the instructions and restrictions. It is thanks to you that Slovenia is the most successful among all the neighbouring countries of Italy, the focal point of the outbreak. What is even more important is that due to your responsible behaviour, you have prevented hundreds of deaths as a result of COVID-19, as well as the collapse of the healthcare system, which could have led to thousands more victims in addition to the existing ones because of its incapacity to treat many other diseases or injuries. We can just take a look at our neighbouring country and see what a potential risk we were exposed to.”
However, since the epidemic has not been overcome yet, the Prime Minister asked everyone to continue to act responsibly in the coming days and weeks. “Only by strictly adhering to the instructions of the healthcare profession in our conduct and behaviour will we be able to keep the number of infections at such a low level that we may avoid new outbreaks and new restrictions. Let us also work together to influence the few unreasonable deniers of the virus who endanger your health and your lives with their irresponsible behaviour. I also call on the competent institutions to consistently prevent threats to health and general safety,” the Prime Minister called for all citizens to act responsibly.
“Slovenia is currently among the most successful countries in the fight against the epidemic, and it is all thanks to you. Owing to the rapid preparation of both anti-corona packages, Slovenia is also among the less economically and socially affected countries. Let us continue along this path. Thank you and stay healthy,” Janša added.
